Cardinals HC Apologized After Video of Emari Demercado Exchange Following Viral Fumble

Scott PolacekOct 6, 2025

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon's frustration during Sunday's stunning 22-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans was on full display in a video that captured him getting in Emari Demercado's face, yelling at the running back for his costly fumble and even making physical contact.

Gannon apologized Monday.

"I didn't see the video. But I actually woke up this morning and didn't feel great about it, honestly," he told reporters. "So in the team meeting, I addressed it. I apologized to Emari, apologized to the team. I just told them I let the moment of what happened get the better of me there.

"Obviously, I try to be emotionally stable and calm because my job is to solve problems during a game and lead the charge on that. So it's not really who I am, who I want to be. And I told the guys that today. So it's a mistake by me."

It seemed as if Demercado was going to score a 72-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter and push Arizona's lead to 28-6. However, he dropped the ball in celebration before crossing the goal line.

The ball went out the back of the end zone for a touchback, and the Titans ended up scoring the next 16 points to win the game.

It was far from the only shocking play for the Cardinals, as quarterback Kyler Murray had to temporarily exit the game after a snap hit him in the head for a fumble that Tennessee recovered. Titans wide receiver Tyler Lockett also scored a touchdown on an unbelievable fumble recovery during the fourth-quarter comeback.

Dadrion Taylor-Demerson picked off Cam Ward but fumbled when trying to get up. Teammate Kei'Trel Clark accidentally knocked the ball backward, where it hit other Cardinals defenders before going into the end zone for Lockett's recovery and touchdown.

The game was a comedy of errors for the Cardinals, not the least of which was Demercado's fumble.

Gannon was understandably frustrated, but he apologized for taking things too far after the dust settled on the team's third straight loss.
