Latest MLB Free Agents Predictions Amid 2025 World Series Bracket

Erik BeastonOct 6, 2025

The MLB Playoffs are ongoing right now but front offices around the league are devising plans on who to bring on-board to make their team better and strengthen their shot at a World Series title well beyond 2025.

MLB LDS Bracket

There are some high-profile names who will be available, either outright or via exercising their option, and teams will be scurrying to meet with them and find out what it would take to change their uniform colors.

Who are those players and where might they end up? Find out with these predictions amid the ongoing postseason.

JT Realmuto, C, Philadelphia Phillies

1 of 3
Division Series - Los Angeles Dodgers v Philadelphia Phillies - Game One

Realmuto is beloved in Philadelphia, a staple of the team and one of the better catchers in the league. He is a workhorse who is behind the plate far more often than not and a stable part of the Phillies' offense.

He is not as productive as he was during the 2022 and '23 seasons, but he is still a reliable part of the Phillies puzzle.

The three-time All-Star is also relatively expensive given his output over the last two seasons and will likely have to take a discount to remain with the organization.

A staple of the City of Brotherly Love since coming over from Miami in 2019, he has been as popular a player as there is and unless he can find an offer to go elsewhere, compete for a World Series title, and find a team willing to overpay him for diminishing numbers, it would behoove him to work with the team and find some common ground on a contract that will keep him there for the rest of his career.

The alternative would be for the Phils to, potentially, make a trade for a younger catcher, like Adley Rutschman in Baltimore, to replace him.

That does not feel likely, with Realmuto's chemistry with the Phillies' pitching staff being the deciding factor.

Prediction: Realmuto and the Phillies do business, extend their partnership

Alex Bregman, 3B, Boston Red Sox

2 of 3
MLB: OCT 02 AL Wild Card - Red Sox at Yankees

Bregman was one of the prized free agents last offseason when Boston signed him to a three-year, $120 million deal. He was a key contributor to a Red Sox team that showed guts and resiliency, battling back and fighting through the end of the season to make the Wild Card round before being bounced by the New York Yankees.

The third baseman and former Houston Astro has an opt-out as part of that contract and is expected to exercise it in pursuit of a stronger deal. That could mean he ends up with the Red Sox or he goes elsewhere.

Despite missing 48 games, Bregman still performed well, delivering 118 hits, 18 home runs, 62 RBI, and a 3.5 WAR.

Bregman has consistently been one of the best at his position and will have other teams looking to add him to their roster. Boston can alleviate the concern that he will take his talents elsewhere by rewarding him for his play with an updated, higher-priced contract.

Expect them to, though not before Bregman thoroughly tests the free agent market and sees what else is available to him.

Prediction: Bregman opts out but ultimately returns to Boston

Framber Valdez, SP, Houston Astros

3 of 3
Houston Astros v Athletics

Assuming he promises never to get frustrated and cross up his own catcher again, there will be plenty of pitching-needy teams interested in signing Framber Valdez this offseason.

While he was not as good as he has been in 2025, he was still a strong starter, going 13-11 in 31 starts, with an ERA of 3.66, a WHIP of 1.24, and a WAR of 3.8.

A consistent performer at the top of the Astros' rotation and a major reason the team was still in the playoff hunt as long as it was, he will have the eyes of plenty of suitors come the opening of free agency, including organizations like the Mets, Orioles, and Cubs, all of whom are arguably one legitimate starter away from being credible World Series contenders.

Look for one of those squads to get their man, with the Mets always holding the financial upper hand.

Prediction: New York lands Valdez to shore up their starting rotation
