Adonai Mitchell's Status TBD for Raiders Game After Errors vs. Rams, Colts HC Says

Zach BacharOct 3, 2025

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen was noncommittal when asked about wide receiver Adonai Mitchell's playing status against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

"We'll see," Steichen said, per ESPN's Stephen Holder.

Mitchell initially appeared to score a touchdown in the second half of the Colts' 27-20 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4, but fumbled the ball just before stepping into the end zone and the play was ruled a touchback.

Mitchell addressed his fumble after the game.

"It definitely stings," Mitchell said, per Holder. "The ball was put in my hand to make a play for the team, and it was a matter of losing focus and just to play. That just can't happen. Just unacceptable. I've just got to be better for the team and for the organization."

With the score tied 20-20 late in the fourth quarter, a 53-yard rushing touchdown from Jonathan Taylor was also called back due to a holding penalty by Mitchell. The Colts were eventually forced to punt before the Rams scored a go-ahead touchdown on the next possession.

Just trying to make a play," Mitchell said regarding the penalty.

Indianapolis selected the wideout with a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, but he failed to exceed expectations as a rookie.

Mitchell recorded just 23 catches on 55 targets in 2024, amassing 312 receiving yards in 17 appearances.

This year, he's hauled in seven receptions for 137 yards through four games.

Mitchell's role hasn't gotten much larger compared to his rookie year, as he's only been on the field for 38 percent of Indianapolis' offensive snaps (via Pro Football Reference). His 12 targets also rank No. 5 on the Colts this season.

As Indianapolis prepares for a matchup with a Las Vegas defense that has allowed 228.3 yards per game through the air, Mitchell may not be part of the team's game plan.
