Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Jones is set to make his third start of the season Thursday night in place of injured starter Brock Purdy.
Purdy, who sat out Weeks 2 and 3 after suffering left shoulder and toe injuries in the Niners' season-opening win over the Seattle Seahawks, returned to play the Jacksonville Jaguars in last Sunday's Week 4 matchup.
The 49ers star struggled with inconsistency in his return. Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy then reported soreness in his toe later that night.
The Niners announced Wednesday that Purdy had been ruled out alongside wide receivers Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings and Jordan Watkins.
Jones has been dealing with a knee injury. He told reporters after the 49ers' Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals that he had re-aggravated a training camp knee injury during the win.
But Jones was a full participant in practice each day this week, putting him on track to step in for Purdy.
With two of the team's starting wide receivers sidelined, Shanahan and the Niners offense might turn to star running back Christian McCaffrey to lead the charge when Week 5 kicks off Thursday night at 8:15 p.m. ET in Los Angeles.
