Jaguars' Travon Walker Has Surgery on Wrist Injury, Could Play vs. Chiefs on MNF

Adam WellsOct 2, 2025

The Jacksonville Jaguars are hopeful Travon Walker will be able to play in Monday's huge matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Head coach Liam Coen told reporters on Thursday that Walker is considered "day-to-day" after undergoing wrist surgery this week.

Walker suffered the injury in the second quarter of Jacksonville's Week 4 win over the San Francisco 49ers. He left the game after playing 12 defensive snaps and didn't return.

Coen said on Monday that Walker was visiting a specialist and the team would have a better idea of his status afterward. The 24-year-old wound up having surgery that same day.

"He's going to try to do everything in his power," Coen said of Walker's outlook for Week 5. "He just cares so much. He was one of the first guys I saw before I got in the locker room on Sunday congratulating the guys."

Since the Jaguars are playing on Monday Night Football, Thursday will mark their first official practice of the week.

Walker, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, has been a big reason the Jaguars have the fifth-best scoring defense in the league through four weeks. He ranks second on the team in quarterback hits (four), tackles for loss (two; tied with three other players) and sacks (two).

If Walker is unable to play or is on a limited snap count against the Chiefs, Dawuane Smoot will likely see more action. Emmanuel Ogbah, who played a season-high 43 snaps against the 49ers, could also be in line for increased playing time.

The Jaguars have a chance to make a statement about their spot in the AFC hierarchy against the reigning conference champions in a primetime game. They are off to a 3-1 start on the strength of a defense that has forced a league-high 13 turnovers.
