Brian Callahan, Titans' Coaches Reportedly Have 'Moderate Concern' About Job Security

Mike ChiariOct 1, 2025

There is reportedly some worry among members of the Tennessee Titans coaching staff that changes could be coming if the team doesn't show signs of improvement.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Titans coaches have "moderate concern" that the front office "might not be as patient as they originally believed," which potentially puts head coach Brian Callahan's job in jeopardy as early as this season.

The Titans had a league-worst 3-14 record last season in their first year under Callahan, and they haven't been any better so far this season, as evidenced by their 0-4 start.

Fowler added that while the Tennessee front office had "optimism" regarding Callahan entering the 2025 campaign, it wanted to see improvement, which clearly hasn't happened.

In addition to being 0-4, the Titans have the worst scoring offense in the league (12.8 points per game) and the 28th-ranked scoring defense in the NFL (30.0 points per game), giving them a league-worst point differential of minus-69.

Despite that, ESPN's Dan Graziano reported that some in the league believe the Titans' head coaching job will be desirable if it opens up due to the presence of rookie quarterback Cam Ward and the fact that a new stadium is set to be completed in 2027.

After getting mediocre quarterback play from Will Levis and Mason Rudolph last season, the Titans used the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft to select Ward.

While Ward's talent is apparent, it hasn't yet translated into consistent on-field performances, as he is completing just 51.2 percent of his passes for 614 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Callahan, who experienced enormous success as the Cincinnati Bengals' offensive coordinator previously, installed himself as the offensive play-caller in Tennessee upon getting hired as head coach.

However, Callahan decided to step away from those duties last week, making quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree the new play-caller.

That decision did not pay immediate dividends, as the Titans were shut out 26-0 by the Houston Texans in Week 4.

The Titans have five games remaining before their Week 10 bye, and it is fair to wonder if Callahan and his staff will be coaching for their jobs during that time.

Callahan's first chance to cool off the hot seat will come Sunday when the Titans go on the road to face the 2-2 Arizona Cardinals.
