Lionel Messi, Neymar Left off of 2015 Barcelona US Tour Roster

Lionel Messi and Neymar have been granted leave from Barcelona's pre-season touring party of the USA, with the Copa America stars rested before the new campaign.

Sports Illustrated confirmed the news that will disappoint their American fan base, with Claudio Bravo, Javier Mascherano and Dani Alves also omitted from the squad.

However, the Champions League holders will feature Uruguay superstar Luis Suarez, as well as Spain legend Andres Iniesta and new signing Arda Turan.

Messi and Neymar once again failed with their international sides in the recent South American tournament, with both Argentina and Brazil unable to capture the trophy.

Messi and Neymar have been in sensational form for the Liga champions, as the Camp Nou giants once again leaped ahead of the Madrid clubs in Spain's top league. 

The Argentina captain recorded an extraordinary 53 goals and 23 assists for Barca in La Liga and Europe last season, per WhoScored.com, finding a level of form many felt had left him.

Neymar also posted one of the greatest seasons of his short career, scoring 32 times in the Spanish league and Champions League, per WhoScored, proving himself to be one of the hottest attackers in world football. 

Barcelona's presidential elections are due to take place on Saturday, with football writer Rafael Hernandez highlighting a confidant of Messi has claimed the player is unhappy with the previous regime and is aware of interest in him from the Premier League:

Barca will miss their two alpha-male players as the team prepares for bigger days to come, but both realistically need additional time to rest after playing for their countries over two consecutive summers.

Neymar was famously cut down by injury in the 2015 World Cup, and at 23 years old—he must be aware of burnout issues. 

Both players are assured to come back for their club soon, but USA spectators will feel they have been short-changed in the interim.
