Jared Verse Reflects on Rams' Loss to Eagles, 'We Gave Them That Win' in Week 3

Timothy RappSep 29, 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles seem to live rent free in Jared Verse's head.

Verse told Albert Breer of SI.com that Sean McVay directly addressed the team's disappointing loss to the Birds in Week 3, in which the Rams blew a 26-7 lead in the second half and lost on Jordan Davis' game-sealing blocked field goal and touchdown return.

"That was the kind of game a lot of coaches would've been like, 'OK, move on to next week,' and not addressed it at all," he said. "Sean takes that head on. We gave that team that win. Obviously, that's a very good Philadelphia team, but we gave them that win. We started going away from our morals and changing up how we play. And Sean made sure to adjust with that. We can dominate any team in the league but we have to be us."

The Rams undoubtedly made some crucial mistakes. They had two field-goal attempts blocked in the fourth quarter. McVay was extremely cautious on fourth downs, often settling for field goals rather than attempting to extend drives and play for touchdowns. The Rams struggled to stop Philly's passing game in the second half, while the L.A. offense largely stalled out after a strong start.

"We made mistakes [in Philly] and they were able to come back," Verse said. "You sit down and say, 'Alright, this was on us. How do I make sure that never happens again?' I'm glad it happened against one of the top teams in the league instead of another team that wasn't as talented. We realized, that's what can happen if you don't keep your foot on the gas, take your foot off their neck. This is what my dad always told me, he would say, 'I don't care if you're up 100, or you're up three, you keep your foot on their damn neck.'"

The Eagles have taught the Rams a few lessons in the past two seasons, beating them three times, including in last year's playoffs. The 3-1 Rams undoubtedly look like a legitimate contender in the NFC, but they have to get through the Eagles first.
