Week 5 Waiver Wire Breakout Fantasy Football Pickups from Sunday's Box Scores

Erik BeastonSep 28, 2025

The future is now in New York, with the arrival of Jaxson Dart as the starting quarterback. Sunday, he stepped under center for the first time and led the hapless G-Men to their first victory of the season.

The first-round pick is just one of three potential waiver wire breakouts to keep an eye on following a productive Sunday.

Who are the others and why?

Find out in this preview of Week 5.

Woody Marks, RB, Houston Texans

APTOPIX Titans Texans Football

The absence of Joe Mixon through the first four weeks of the season left Houston searching for answers at the running back position. Early on, Nick Chubb was the primary back and, by far, earned the most touches.

In Week 3, rookie Jo'quavious "Woody" Marks earned six carries to Chubb's nine and this week, he left no doubt that he should be a bigger part of the Texans' offense moving forward.

Marks rushed 17 times for 69 yards and added another 50 on four receptions. He tallied two touchdowns for the day and was Houston's greatest asset offensively.

With the team reeling after a sluggish 0-3 start to 2025, look for the Texans to lean on the fourth-rounder out of USC in an attempt to jumpstart a unit that has underwhelmed through the first quarter of the season.

He accounted for 27.9 PPR points in Week 4 and will have the opportunity to contribute that many to fantasy managers as he gains more playing time in Houston.

He is available 72 percent of leagues in Yahoo and ESPN, respectively.

Kendre Miller, RB, New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are poised for one of the worst seasons in their history in 2025, but one bright spot of late has been the play of Miller while spelling starting tailback Alvin Kamara.

After a Week 3 that saw him tally seven carries for 27 yards and two receptions for nine yards, he followed up with 11 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown.

While Kamara is the undisputed lead back and the best player on the team, Miller is an invaluable backup who can step in, give the superstar a break, and still contribute to a New Orleans offense that badly needs it.

As Spencer Rattler continues to struggle under center, and head coach Kellen Moore resists the urge to start rookie Tyler Shough, do not be surprised to see the former Eagles offensive coordinator lean on his running backs, creating more opportunities for Miller to contribute both to the Saints and to fantasy teams.

The third-year back is available in over 90 percent of Yahoo and ESPN leagues.

Jaxson Dart, QB, New York Giants

The 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft made his pro debut Sunday, leading the 0-3 New York Giants to an upset win over the 3-0 Los Angeles Chargers with a performance that made fantasy managers around the globe sit up and take notice.

Under center, he was efficient, completing 13 of 20 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, he was dynamic, carrying 12 times for 54 yards and another score.

He was a dual threat and made history, joining Tim Tebow as the only two players with a passing touchdown, rushing touchdown, and 50-plus yards on the ground in their first start.

The Giants are going to play from behind a bunch this season, giving Dart plenty of opportunities to make plays, both with his arm and his legs. His passing numbers may not inspire awe, but his overall impact on the Giants offense might. For that reason, he is worth grabbing and stashing, especially for managers in deeper leagues with more bench space.

Dart is available in over 75 percent of Yahoo and ESPN leagues.
