Kevin Love Reportedly Will Attend Jazz Training Camp amid Contract Buyout Rumors

Julia StumbaughSep 26, 2025

The Utah Jazz may not be planning on buying out Kevin Love's contract just yet.

The Jazz are expecting Love to attend training camp next week, NBA insider Marc Stein reported Friday.

Utah is scheduled to open training camp next Monday. The deadline to finalize 15-man active rosters ahead of the 2025-26 season is set for Oct. 20.

Love, 37, was dealt to the Jazz from the Miami Heat as part of a three-team trade in July.

Stein originally reported in August that Love was "actively exploring potential pathways out of Utah."

As of Sept. 15, however, Stein had reported the Jazz and Love "have not yet moved into serious buyout discussions despite reports to the contrary."

But Stein noted earlier this month that "it is widely known in league circles that Love is determined to play for a playoff contender at this point in his career."

The NBA insider added that the delay in buying out Love's contract may have to do with the veteran not yet knowing which team he will be playing for next.

"It is also customary for a buyout process to progress to an advanced stage once a post-buyout landing spot is assured," Stein wrote.

The Jazz previously reached a buyout agreement with Jordan Clarkson earlier this offseason. Clarkson signed with the New York Knicks one week after the buyout was announced.

Clarkson ultimately gave the Jazz back $3.6 million of his buyout, which was approximately equivalent to the veteran's minimum agreement he signed with the Knicks, per NBA insider Jake Fischer.

The Jazz could potentially be hoping for a similar outcome if Love is able to find a match with a contending team looking to add veteran depth ahead of the 2025-26 season.

If Love ultimately stays in Utah, however, the Jazz could be looking for him to serve as both a frontcourt backup and a veteran presence on their rebuilding squad.
