Jerry Jones Talks Micah Parsons' Run Defense, Cowboys Impact Ahead of Packers Game

Zach BacharSep 26, 2025

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones called out Green Bay Packers star Micah Parsons' run defense heading into a Week 4 matchup between the two teams.

"Some plays it looks beautiful, but then other plays — especially running plays — you wish you had a different formation," Jones said during a radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan (h/t Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News).

"To be trite, we lost games with Micah," he added.

Parsons spent the first four years of his career with Dallas before he was traded to Green Bay in a blockbuster swap on Aug. 28.

He initially requested a trade on Aug. 1 after negotiations with Dallas regarding a potential contract extension stalled.

After the trade, Green Bay handed Parsons a new four-year deal worth $188 million.

The four-time Pro Bowler established himself as one of the NFL's most imposing defensive players during his tenure with the Cowboys, although it's worth noting that his performance against the run lagged behind his stellar production as a pass-rusher.

Parsons' 21.7 percent run-stop win rate ranked No. 76 among edge defenders with at least 300 snaps in 2024, via ESPN's Bill Barnwell.

Still, his ability to consistently find his way into the backfield and pressure quarterbacks outweighs any potential drawbacks when it comes to limiting opposing rushing attacks.

He recorded 54 sacks in 66 career games with Dallas, which included 12 sacks in just 13 games during his 2024 campaign.

Parsons has continued to stand out in Green Bay's front seven since the change of scenery, amassing six quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks in three games this season. He's also racked up 15 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.

Now, he'll be returning to AT&T Stadium for the first time after the trade on Sunday.

Kickoff between the Cowboys and Packers is at 8:20 p.m. ET.
