Jayden Daniels' Injury Status Reportedly 'A Real Question' for Commanders vs. Falcons

Julia StumbaughSep 25, 2025

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels' injury status is "a real question mark" heading in to Week 4's matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, ESPN's Adam Schefter said Thursday on NFL Live.

"He said it would be up to the doctors, which sometimes provides a hint," Schefter said.

Daniels, who suffered a knee sprain in Week 2's loss to the Green Bay Packers and sat out Week 3's win over the Las Vegas Raiders, was limited for a second consecutive practice Thursday.

Marcus Mariota will be called on for a second straight start if Daniels is not cleared to play by Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

When asked Wednesday to provide an assessment of his injury status, Daniels told reporters, "It's up to the doctor. It's not my decision."

He was then asked how much running and cutting he has been able to do while practicing on the injured knee.

"Enough to feel good if I play on Sunday," Daniels said. "Like I said, it's not my decision."

Daniels has been seen wearing a knee brace both during practices last week and on the sidelines of the Commanders' Week 3 win, per The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala.

When asked about what it felt like to wear the brace during practice, Daniels said Wednesday that it was "something to get used to."

He also said he hadn't yet been informed if he would need to wear the brace while playing in Sunday.

"The doctors haven't said that decision yet. So that'll be a conversation," Daniels said.

The last time Daniels played against the Falcons, he led the Commanders to clinch a playoff berth with an overtime Sunday night win in Week 17 of his rookie season.

If the Commanders are not able to get Daniels back on the field in time for a second round with the Falcons, Mariota will make two starts in the same season for the first time since he played for Atlanta in 2022.

The Commanders will provide an update on Daniels' status when new injury designations are released Friday.
