Raleigh launched two homers in Wednesday's 9-2 win over the Colorado Rockies to help the Mariners (89-69) win the AL West title for the fourth time in franchise history and the first time since 2001.
"It's crazy. Sixty is -- I don't know what to say," Raleigh said after the win, per ESPN. "I didn't know if I was going to hit 60 in my life. Just tonight, what a way to do it."
Raleigh leads the majors in home runs and ranks second with 125 RBI. A catcher hasn't won an MVP award since legendary San Francisco Giants star Buster Posey took home the NL MVP in 2012. Hall of Famer Joe Mauer was the last catcher to win AL MVP in 2009.
While Raleigh is in the midst of a special season, Judge has also had a strong year. The two-time AL MVP leads MLB with a .328 batting average and ranks fourth with 51 homers and sixth with 109 RBI. The Yankees have clinched a playoff spot and are tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for the best record in the American League at 90-68.
With four games left in the regular season, time is running out for Raleigh and Judge to cement their cases for the AL MVP award, but Raleigh now appears to be the frontrunner after making history on Wednesday.
