Russell Wilson Won't Request Trade or Release After Being Benched for Jaxson Dart
Despite being benched by the New York Giants in favor of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, veteran signal-caller Russell Wilson doesn't plan on seeking a new opportunity elsewhere.
Wilson told reporters on Wednesday that he won't be requesting to be traded or released by the Giants this season.
"I'm not done," Wilson said.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced on Wednesday that Dart has been named the starting quarterback for the remainder of the 2025 season, while Wilson will serve as his primary backup.
The decision to insert Dart over Wilson came after fans and pundits were clamoring for New York to make a change under center following the team's 0-3 start to the season.
Wilson, who is in his first year with the franchise after signing a one-year contract this past offseason, struggled to lead the Giants to success on offense in his three starts. While he exploded for 450 yards and three touchdowns in a close overtime loss against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, he threw for under 170 yards and no touchdowns in his other two starts. He tossed a pair of interceptions in his most recent outing against the Kansas City Chiefs this past Sunday, which drew a smattering of boos and chants of "We want Dart!" from the home fans at MetLife Stadium.
Wilson was once one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but the last few years have not been kind to the 10-time Pro Bowler. He spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers after he was released by the Denver Broncos following a disappointing two seasons after they acquired him from the Seattle Seahawks and signed him to a whopping five-year, $245 million contract extension.
Still, it sounds like Wilson is not viewing his benching as a negative, and he seems committed to fulfilling his duties as the Giants' backup quarterback and aiding Dart's development as the starter.
