Patriots' Christian Gonzalez Reportedly 'Likely' to Return from Injury vs. Panthers
The New England Patriots could be getting one of their best defensive players back in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Thursday that star cornerback Christian Gonzalez is "likely" to make his season debut following his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters Wednesday that the team plans to ramp up the practice participation of Gonzalez in hopes of him playing in Sunday's game.
"Hopefully he progress throughout the week and he can help us," Vrabel said.
Gonzalez injured his hamstring in just the second week of training camp this summer, but it wasn't initially thought to be a serious injury. Schultz reported at the time that the hinderance "will not impact his Week 1 availability."
However, Gonzalez has been sidelined through the first three games of the season for New England, which fell to 1-2 after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Sunday. Without their 2024 second-team All-Pro corner on the field, the Patriots rank 29th in the NFL in passing defense with 256.3 yards allowed per game.
Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer recently revealed that the uncertainty surrounding Gonzalez's status has created a contentious situation in New England, especially considering that he reportedly didn't suffer a setback that would've delayed his recovery.
"I've dug around on this for the last couple of weeks, and from what I've found, there wasn't a setback, which almost makes it worse," Breer said during an appearance on NBC Sports Boston on Tuesday. "I know their full expectation when he got hurt in July was that he'd be ready by Week 1. … If he misses this game, that makes it four weeks, which means he's not just behind where they thought he'd be in July, but he's behind where they thought he'd be at the beginning of September. I don't think there's any ill-will, but I do think that there's frustration."
Any ill feelings would be alleviated if Gonzalez is able to take the field against the Panthers, and Vrabel sounded confident that the 23-year-old would be able to make his season debut on Sunday.
