X Games Leagues Draft, Events, Points and Championship Format Explained in New Video

Fans got a closer look at how the inaugural season of the X Games League will work in a video shared Wednesday by X Games.

The team-based seasonal league is set to kick off with a trio of three-day X Games events held in summer 2026.

This inaugural season will feature eight clubs, four of which will compete in skateboarding and BMX in the summer followed by four winter clubs competing in snowboarding and skiing.

These clubs will each feature 10 athletes, which can be selected in the XGL Summer Draft taking place in spring 2026.

X Games CEO Jeremy Bloom recently told Sports Business Journal's Ethan Joyce that more than 150 athletes have already opted in for the draft.

Those selected by X Games clubs will receive a base compensation of $30,000 regardless of their position in the draft, Bloom said.

Athletes will then compete to gain points, which are cumulative throughout the season, with high finishes in X Games events. Each competitor gets three runs, with the best run counting as their score.

Club general managers will choose their lineup for each discipline ahead of the competition, with athletes divided into Vert, Street, Park and BMX Dirt in the summer and Super Pipe, Big Air, Slope Style and Knuckle Huck in the winter.

The X Games League can bring in undrafted free agents to compete in any competition spots left unrostered by teams.

A first-place finish in a competition nets an athlete 100 points, while a runner-up receives 85 points and a third-place finisher brings home 75 points, according to the X Games League.

Athletes who finish in the top seven places receive at least 30 points, while eighth- to twelfth-place finishers receive no points. The top finisher for each team contributes their points to the club's total.

At the end of the season the X Games League will crown discipline champions, while one club with the highest point total will emerge as the inaugural X Games League champion.

More information about the draft format, team locations and event dates are set to be released by the X Games in the months leading up to the inaugural summer draft.
