Tom Brady Addresses 'Paranoid and Distrustful' Critics of Raiders, NFL Broadcast Roles

Mike ChiariSep 24, 2025

Legendary former NFL quarterback Tom Brady downplayed the idea that his role as minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and the lead analyst for the NFL on Fox create a conflict of interest.

Per Mark Maske of the Washington Post, Brady addressed the issue in his newsletter Wednesday, writing, "I feel I have a moral and ethical duty to the sport; which is why the point where my roles in it intersect is not actually a point of conflict, despite what the paranoid and distrustful might believe."

Brady was approved to become a minority owner of the Raiders in October 2024, and he is currently in the midst of his second season as Fox's top NFL color commentator.

Because of the potential pitfalls associated with being both an owner and an announcer, the NFL announced several rules Brady had to abide by last season, including restrictions on being in other teams' facilities, attending other teams' practices and attending production meetings either in person or virtually.

Per Jack McKessy of USA Today, the NFL already relaxed some regulations this season, allowing Brady to now attend production meetings virtually or away from team facilities.

During the Raiders' Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football, Brady was spotted in the Raiders' coaching booth:

While Brady was not found to be in violation of any NFL rules, more questions emerged regarding Brady's role with the Raiders and whether his access to opposing teams potentially gives Vegas a competitive advantage.

ESPN's Peter Schrager (h/t Pro Football Talk's Myles Simmons) reported that Brady and Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly meet two to three times per week, but Kelly downplayed the scope of the discussions, saying, "I spend a lot of time just talking football with him. But it's not on a—we don't talk about game plans."

However, last week, former Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce appeared on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio with Adam Schein (h/t Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio) and claimed that while he was the Raiders' head coach last season, Brady shared information with him:

"It's not hard for him to watch a few things on a Friday practice or hear things in a production meeting and be like, 'Hmm,' and have tidbits. And you'd be foolish enough to think that he's not gonna share that with the Raiders because we had those conversations about certain things."

Pierce did not offer specifics regarding what he and Brady talked about or regarding how Brady obtained the information, but it is understandable if the comments raised some eyebrows within NFL circles.

Given that Brady has far more access to opposing players and coaches this year than he did last year, it is fair to assume that he has been able to obtain more tidbits that could be of use to Raiders players and coaches should he choose to share them.

While Brady sought to assure people Wednesday that there is no reason to be concerned about his dual roles, there are at least some in the NFL who have their reservations, including an anonymous owner who told Dianna Russini of The Athletic that Brady's situation gives the Raiders "an unfair advantage."
