This comes after the Titans dropped to 1-5 with a 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Mike McCoy is reportedly expected to take over as interim coach, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. McCoy had been the Titans' senior offensive assistant this season, but has head coaching experience after leading the Chargers from 2013-16, going 27-37 in that stretch.

The Titans fired Mike Vrabel after going 6-11 during the 2023 campaign, replacing him with Callahan, who had previously served as the Cincinnati Bengals' offensive coordinator.

Callahan's first season as head coach was rough as the Titans went 3-14, marking their second-worst season since moving to Tennessee in 1997.

While it was a disaster of a season, the blame wasn't entirely on Callahan. The Titans struggled with a handful of injuries, most notable at the quarterback position as Will Levis missed five games and never really got into rhythm.

The one positive about Callahan going 3-14 in his first season is that it gave the Titans the No. 1 overall pick, which they used to draft Cam Ward.

Ward earned the starting job immediately, but didn't find the immediate success Tennessee hoped he would, though that wasn't necessarily his fault. Through six games, Ward has thrown for 1,101 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions.

Callahan's second season in Tennessee started exactly how his first did, as the Titans went 0-3 through the first three weeks. Amid the rough start to the year, Callahan handed over offensive play-calling duties to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree, a major change for the former offensive coordinator.

Clearly, giving play-calling duties to someone else wasn't enough for Callahan to right the ship, and he's now out of a job less than two years after being hired.

Now, Tennessee will likely begin another coaching search in the offseason as it looks for the person who can turn things around after years of struggles. In the meantime, McCoy will try to find more success on the field and get the most out of Ward.
