Ravens, Texans Not Considering Wayne

Monday, July 20

"[The Baltimore] Ravens [are] not expected to pursue veteran free-agent wide receiver Reggie Wayne," the Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson reported, citing sources.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle also reported the Houston Texans were not interested. Dave Furst of WRTV-6 reported the Ravens and Texans were among the teams interested in Wayne on July 17.

Wayne Intends to Play in 2015, Multiple Teams Interested

Many figured the 36-year-old wideout's career was over when the only NFL team he has ever known decided to move on; however, Wayne views the situation differently.

According to Mike Chappell of Fox 59 in Indianapolis, the six-time Pro Bowler has been pursued by teams this offseason and wants to play in 2015. Furst reported the Patriots and Packers as teams with interest.

Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star added from Wayne that "he feels great physically. Now recovered from triceps surgery and feels fresh, a la 2012."

Chappell added from Wayne: "I want to finish how I know I can finish."

Wayne's production was down last season as he caught 64 passes for 779 yards and two touchdowns while falling behind T.Y. Hilton on the Colts depth chart, but he is a savvy veteran who brings a wealth of knowledge and winning experience to the table.

Even though he isn't as explosive as he once was, his sure hands and elite route-running ability could make him a fine complementary option somewhere in 2015.

Per Kevin Bowen of Colts.com, Wayne expressed his hopes and expectations for the 2015 campaign and beyond:

A return to Indy isn't in the cards since the Colts already have returning receivers Hilton and Donte Moncrief in place, along with free-agent signee Andre Johnson.

It long seemed as though Wayne would spend his entire career with the Colts, but change appears to be on the horizon after 14 years in the NFL.

While some might argue that the former All-Pro selection is potentially tainting his legacy by considering other options, it is unlikely that he will put himself in a disadvantageous position.

Regardless of what happens in 2015, Wayne will always be remembered and beloved by Colts fans, and if he ultimately ends up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, there will be no mistake about which team he is representing first and foremost.
