Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Following Brock Lesnar's dominant win over John Cena at Wrestlepalooza, there reportedly aren't any plans in place for them to run it back.
According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live (h/t WrestleTalk), Wrestlepalooza marked the last-ever singles match between Cena and Lesnar, and Lesnar will not be Cena's opponent in the final match of his career at Saturday Night's Main Event in December.
After being off WWE programming for two years, Lesnar made his surprise return at SummerSlam, hitting Cena with an F-5 after Cena dropped the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes.
That set the stage for Cena vs. Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza, marking the first one-on-one match between them since 2014.
The Wrestlepalooza match played out like a few of their previous ones with Lesnar dominating, Cena making a comeback and nearly stealing a victory, and then Brock snuffing it out en route to a win.
Typically, that type of match is a setup for a rematch with the babyface battling back and giving the heel their comeuppance.
However, while Cena is on the event poster for Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia, next month, Lesnar is not, which suggests WWE may have something else in store for Cena.
Even if Cena vs. Lesnar is not in the cards, they could still have another encounter of sorts if both are involved in the men's WarGames match at Survivor Series in November.
Paul Heyman, who is the Oracle of The Vision, introduced Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza, which suggests he could join forces with Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.
Cena could then be on the opposing team, potentially with Roman Reigns and The Usos.
That would not only allow Cena to compete in WarGames for the first time in his illustrious career, but it would also allow WWE to bring a more fitting end to the Cena vs. Lesnar rivalry.
Lynch Reportedly Praised for Wrestlepalooza Performance
People in WWE reportedly gave Becky Lynch her proverbial flowers for her performance during the mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza.
According to Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Lynch was given a lot of internal credit for helping to guide AJ Lee through her first match in a decade, which is something Becky has "gained a reputation for."
At Wrestlepalooza, Lynch teamed with her husband, Seth Rollins, against another husband-and-wife team of CM Punk and AJ.
Lee recently returned to WWE after more than 10 years away, and her first match back with the company was the longest one on the card at nearly a half-hour.
During her heyday with WWE, women's matches typically weren't given much time, so the Wrestlepalooza bout was by far the longest match of AJ's career.
Despite that and any potential ring rust, she had an excellent showing in the match, and it is undoubtedly fair to commend Lynch for helping Lee look as good as possible in that scenario.
Since Lee made Lynch tap out, it is probably safe to assume that a Women's Intercontinental Championship match between them is on the horizon.
If that happens, it will be an entirely new challenge for AJ since there will be no additional safety net in the form of Punk and Rollins.
However, given that Lynch is one of the best in the business, there is no reason to believe that she and AJ can't put on a highly entertaining singles bout together.
Reported Details on Piper Niven's Injury
There is reportedly worry within WWE that Piper Niven is dealing with a significant injury that could impact her in-ring future.
According to Alvarez (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), there is concern in WWE that Niven's injury could be career-ending, although no additional details were given regarding the nature of the injury.
Niven has not appeared on WWE programming since the Aug. 22 edition of SmackDown when she picked up one of the biggest victories of her career, defeating future Hall of Famer Charlotte Flair.
That set the stage for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship match between the Secret Hervice and the team of Flair and Alexa Bliss, but Niven did not compete in the match.
Instead, Chelsea Green stepped in to team with Alba Fyre, citing a secret mission as the reason for Niven's absence.
Charlotte and Alexa were successful in their defense of the women's tag team titles, beating Green and Fyre to retain last week on SmackDown.
Niven, 34, competed in the Mae Young Classic in 2017 and has been with WWE on a full-time basis since 2019.
She is a former WWE women's tag team champion with Green, and she has established herself as one of the top powerhouses in the WWE women's division.
An absence of any length represents a big loss for the women's division, especially if it is as serious as Alvarez's report suggests.
