Packers' LaFleur Takes Blame for 'Bad Play Call' on Jordan Love INT in Loss to Browns

Joseph ZuckerSep 22, 2025

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur regretted the play call that resulted in a costly interception for quarterback Jordan Love in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

"That's a bad play call," he told reporters after the game. "We shouldn't have called that play. That's on me."

Love didn't have a feel for Browns safety Grant Delpit when he tried to complete a short throw to Dontayvion Wicks on 3rd-and-3. Delpit read the play perfectly and stepped in front of the pass for an easy pick.

His return helped to set up a touchdown run by Quinshon Judkins, which tied the game at 10-10 with 3:01 on the clock.

"Obviously I'm trying to get it out, but it's one of those, you've got to be able to see him falling off," Love said when referring to Delpit. "He did a great job of making a play, I didn't see him, but it's something I've seen before. I've got to find a way to see him."

Love had a tough day under center. He went 18-of-25 for 183 yards, one touchdown and the one interception, and the Browns defense sacked him five times.

His late turnover may not have been so much of a focus, though, if the special teams unit blocked a little better on Brandon McManus' 43-yard field goal inside the final 30 seconds. Green Bay is probably 3-0 right now if that kick sails through the uprights instead of getting swatted away at the line of scrimmage.

In general, this was a game to forget for the Packers. Their offense couldn't find a groove. They picked up 14 penalties. And they had self-inflicted errors in critical moments.

This might've been a needed wakeup call for Green Bay. Offensive tackle Rasheed Walker was already entertaining the idea of a perfect season, so the hype was spinning out of control.

Losing to the Browns should get everybody refocused ahead of an intriguing road game against the Dallas Cowboys, which will see star edge-rusher Micah Parsons play his old team for the first time.
