NFL Fans Rip Pete Carroll, Raiders After Commanders Blowout with Jayden Daniels Out

Taylyn Hadley Sep 21, 2025

The Washington Commanders blew out Pete Carroll and the Las Vegas Raiders at home, 41–24 on Sunday with backup quarterback Marcus Mariota under center.

Starting quarterback Jayden Daniels was ruled out ahead of Saturday's game, missing his first NFL start with a knee injury. The second-year signal-caller sprained his knee during the Commanders' Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Geno Smith finished with 289 yards on 19-of-29 passing with three touchdowns, while running back Ashton Jeanty added 63 yards on 17 carries — though he remains stuck at just one touchdown this season. All three of Smith's touchdown passes went to wide receiver Tre Tucker, who racked up 145 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, former Oregon standout Mariota completed 15-of-21 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown, adding another score on the ground with 40 rushing yards, as he helped the Commanders improve to 2-1 on the season.

In Carroll's first year as head coach in Las Vegas, the Raiders dropped to 1-2, as fans criticized the team for getting blown out by a Commanders squad playing without starting quarterback Daniels.

Las Vegas trailed 20-10 at halftime after failing to keep the Commanders out of scoring range in a dominant Washington second quarter.

Behind a continuously struggling offensive line, the Raiders couldn't get anything going to start the second half, opening the third quarter with three straight punts. They entered the final frame down 34-10, with little hope of a comeback and a deflated offense.

Despite two late scores from the Raiders, Washington kept its foot on the gas and pulled away with a 41-24 win.

The Raiders will look to bounce back against Caleb Williams and the 0-2 Chicago Bears next Sunday at home.
