Younghoe Koo Reportedly Cut by Falcons, Parker Romo Lands 2-Year Contract
The Atlanta Falcons released kicker Younghoe Koo on Friday, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero.
Atlanta also signed replacement kicker Parker Romo to a two-year contract, per Garafolo and Pelissero.
The Falcons benched Koo in favor of Romo after he missed a game-tying field goal at the end of the team's 23-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.
Romo excelled when filling in during Atlanta's 22-6 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, connecting on all five of his field-goal attempts. This included a 54-yarder in the fourth quarter.
Koo was 5-for-5 over the past two seasons on game-tying or go-ahead field goals in the final two minutes of regulation and overtime (h/t ESPN's Marc Raimondi). His overall accuracy declined in 2024, though.
The 31-year-old connected on just 73.5 percent of his field goals last season, the second-lowest mark among the 16 kickers to attempt more than 30 field goals.
Koo particularly struggled down the stretch of his 2024 campaign, hitting a mere 58.8 percent of his field goals over his final eight appearances of the season.
He started his Falcons career on a high note, earning a Pro Bowl nod during his second year with the team in 2020. Koo owned an 89.9 field-goal percentage over his first five seasons in Atlanta, which included a 74.2 percent mark on kicks from at least 50 yards away.
Given his recent struggles as well as his game-tying miss in the Falcons' season-opener, they reportedly decided to part ways with him.
Now, Romo will continue to serve as Atlanta's kicker heading into a Week 3 matchup with the Carolina Panthers.
