Chargers' Khalil Mack Headed to IR with Elbow Injury, Could Return in 4 Games
After leaving Monday's win over the Las Vegas Raiders with an elbow injury, Los Angeles Chargers pass-rusher Khalil Mack is headed to injured reserve, Jim Harbaugh told reporters Wednesday.
Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network previously reported that Mack is expected to miss "a few weeks" due to a dislocated elbow. This gives him a chance to return when eligible after four games.
Mack was injured late in the first quarter when his arm got tangled up with Tarheeb Still trying to make a tackle. He was taken to the medical tent for evaluation and initially listed as questionable to return before being downgraded to out.

Before the injury, Mack did record his first sack of the season on the Raiders' first possession when he got to Geno Smith on third down to force a field-goal attempt.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh didn't have an official update other than saying Mack would undergo imaging to determine the severity of the injury.
Even with the IR trip, the potential return after four games is a huge win for the Chargers. He remains a disruptive player on the defensive line even at the age of 34.
Tuli Tuipulotu's role as a pass-rusher will likely increase with Mack out of action for the time being. Bud Dupree and Caleb Murphy could also get extra run on the field.
Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has done a great job so far of scheming up his unit. They have allowed just 30 points through two games, third-fewest in the NFL. Both the Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs were held to under 100 rushing yards.
If the Chargers defense can maintain anything close to that level of performance without Mack, their strong start could continue while they wait for him to return.
The next three games for the Chargers are home against the Denver Broncos, at the New York Giants and home against the Washington Commanders.
Sunday's matchup with the Broncos gives the Chargers an opportunity for their first 3-0 start to a season since 2002.
