Gleyber Torres Reportedly Accepts Tigers' Qualifying Offer Contract amid MLB Rumors
Gleyber Torres is returning to the Detroit Tigers after his All-Star 2025 campaign.
The veteran infielder has accepted a one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer to rejoin the Tigers before hitting free agency, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday.
Torres, who turns 28 in December, played last season on a one-year, $15 million deal he signed with the Tigers after eight seasons with the New York Yankees.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
He sought a one-year contract in what Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris called a decision to "bet on himself," Evan Petzold reported last December for the Detroit Free Press.
That bet paid off for Torres, who went on to become the first Tigers second baseman to start an All-Star Game since 2007 and finished the season having slashed .256/.358/.358 with 85 walks and 74 RBI.
After helping the Tigers finish second in the AL Central, Torres batted .235 and batted in one run through eight postseason games before Detroit lost a five-game ALDS to the Seattle Mariners.
He will now cash in on his regular-season success as the Tigers look to make a deeper postseason run in 2026 before he hits free agency.
Torres served as the Yankees' leadoff hitter but struggled on defense during his final year in the Bronx. He finished the 2025 season having recorded minus-5 outs above average with the Tigers, per Baseball Savant.
He still remains one of the most productive second basemen in MLB, however, and has yet to hit below .243 in eight seasons.
The Tigers have more contract negotiations to get through in the near future. The club needs to start negotiating a new deal for Tarik Skubal or decide on a possible trade before the star pitcher hits free agency in 2026.
