Vikings' Carson Wentz Set to Become 1st NFL QB to Start for 6 Teams in 6 Years

Andrew PetersSep 15, 2025

Carson Wentz could make history on Sunday.

With starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy likely out for the Minnesota Vikings' contest against the Cincinnati Bengals, Wentz will likely be under center. If he gets the start, it will make him the first quarterback in NFL history to start at least one game for six different teams in six consecutive seasons, per ESPN's Bill Barnwell.

Over the last five years, Wentz has made at least one start for the Philadelphia Eagles (2020), Indianapolis Colts (2021), Washington Commanders (2022), Los Angeles Rams (2023) and Kansas City Chiefs (2024).

Wentz, 32, has been a journeyman throughout his career. The former No. 2 overall pick in 2016 started his career with the Eagles, where he spent several years as the team's starting quarterback.

He moved on to the Colts in 2021 and remained a starter before landing in Washington in 2022, when he began his tenure as a backup quarterback.

Since then, Wentz hasn't managed to establish himself as a regular starter, but a big performance while filling in for McCarthy could pay dividends for him.
