Jeffery Simmons, Titans Revise Contract, Includes Raise for 17th Game of NFL Schedule

Joseph ZuckerSep 15, 2025

The Tennessee Titans and defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons agreed to a revised contract that effectively gives him an additional game check, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter reported Simmons will receive an extra $632,529 this year, which corrects the fact the extension he signed in 2023 didn't account for the increase in the regular season from 16 to 17 games.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio provided more context.

"The missing money was added to the deal by the Titans, we're told, as an extra signing bonus, fixing the mistake that left that $632,529 out of his contract previously," Florio said. "This was not a contract extension, just an acknowledgement by the Titans that paying Simmons the $632,529 that had been omitted was the fair thing to do."

The effect of the new deal for Simmons and the Titans is minimal since it doesn't add any years, and $632,529 is a drop in the bucket balanced against both the salary cap and the full value ($94 million) of his contract.

Other players might be taking notice, though. Florio cited New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as not having a 17th game check written into their deals.

Those players may try to follow Simmons' lead.

Beyond rectifying an error, Tennessee's decision reflects how the 28-year-old has lived up to the investment. He finished with 76 total tackles, five sacks and 11 tackles for loss in 2024, earning his third Pro Bowl nod. He got his first sack of 2025 in the Titans' 20-12 Week 1 loss to the Denver Broncos.
