Travis Kelce Was 'Trying to Get Guys Fired Up' in Sideline Video, Chiefs' Reid Says

Timothy RappSep 14, 2025

Travis Kelce seemed visibly upset with his Kansas City Chiefs teammates during Sunday's 20-17 loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, and the cameras caught the moment.

After the game, Andy Reid offered more clarity on the moment.

"He's trying to get guys fired up and going," he told reporters. "That's him. He's that way every week if you keep an eye on him. He's all in, all the time. That's the way he was today."

The confusing thing about Kelce's outburst is that seemed to come after Patrick Mahomes scored on a 13-yard run in the second quarter. The Chiefs offense was generally fairly poor on Sunday, however, and much of its early offense came on Mahomes' scrambles, so perhaps Kelce was frustrated with a lack of execution beyond Mahomes going off-script.

Or perhaps he was simply tired of laboring against the Eagles in general, who repeatedly stifled the Chiefs during last season's Super Bowl.

Whatever the case may be, it wasn't the last time Kelce was left frustrated on Sunday. After a Mahomes pass hit him on the hands in the red zone during the second half and was intercepted, he looked deflated:

Mahomes probably threw the ball a touch early, and low, for Kelce to reel it in. It was indicative of the team's offense in general, however, as the Chiefs just looked a touch out of sync for most of the contest. Philly's defense got the best of them again.
