Week 3 Waiver Wire Breakout Fantasy Football Pickups from Sunday's Box Scores

Erik BeastonSep 14, 2025

Recognizing breakout stars to target on the waiver wire, and actually picking them up, is oftentimes the difference between a fantasy league playoff appearance and winning a championship.

On the heels of a Sunday slate that saw several under-the-radar players have monster days for their offenses, find out who managers should target in pursuit of the bragging rights and other rewards that come with winning one's league title in this preview of red-hot potential pickups.

All stats via FantasyPros.com.

Troy Franklin, WR, Denver Broncos

1 of 4
Broncos Colts Football

On a team with Marvin Mims Jr. and Courtland Sutton, one would be forgiven for not acknowledging or even recognizing former Oregon Duck Troy Franklin as a potential fantasy contributor.

That should not longer be the case.

Through two games, Franklin has 12 receptions for 133 yards and a touchdown. He has exhibited early chemistry with quarterback Bo Nix and against the Colts Sunday, shredded the defense in a breakout performance.

With Sutton limited to one catch, and Mims two, Franklin made the most of the looks he got and emerged as a valuable option at a key position for a Broncos team that has big aspirations for its offense.

Available in nearly every league in ESPN and Yahoo leagues, he will earn looks from managers attempting to get a jump on the competition. While he is not necessarily a player to drop someone else in favor of, he bears watching over the next week or so to see if there is consistency to his game.

If so, then scoop him up.

Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, New York Giants

2 of 4
Giants Cowboys Football

Malik Nabers is undoubtedly the top receiver in the Giants locker room but Wan'Dale Robinson has been sneaky good through the first two games of the season.

Against Dallas in an offensive explosion Sunday, he caught eight balls for 142 yards and a touchdown.

It would be easy to attribute that to an absurd game against the Cowboys that saw 984 yards of total offense and six second-half touchdowns between the teams, but Robinson had a solid start to the season against Washington, too.

The fourth-year player out of the University of Nebraska caught six of eight targets for 55 yards against the Commanders. Those are not mind-blowing numbers, but they are indicative of quarterback Russell Wilson's willingness to look his way. As the Giants' offense evolves, Robinson will get his touches and be a strong secondary option.

He is rostered in just 21 percent of Yahoo and 32 percent of ESPN leagues, making him an easily acquirable receiver option.

Zach Ertz, TE, Washington Commanders

3 of 4
Giants Commanders Football

Zach Ertz has been slept on since joining Washington and this year, he has contributed exponentially to the Commanders' offense.

The veteran has caught nine balls for 90 yards through two games and has tallied a touchdown in each. He is a safety net of sorts for second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels and has finished in the top five among tight ends through both weeks.

Rostered in just 56 percent of Yahoo and 41 percent of ESPN leagues, he is the perfect target for managers who may have opted to go young at the position, perhaps in the form of Bears rookie Court land Loveland, but have not had the return they had liked.

Cedric Tillman, WR, Cleveland Browns

4 of 4
Bengals Browns Football

The value of any fantasy player can be, at least partially, attributed to how many opportunities he is likely to get in any given week. While the Browns' Cedric Tillman has not caught every ball thrown his way by quarterback Joe Flacco, the University of Tennessee product is getting those opportunities and has earned a look from managers looking to supplement their rosters.

The 25-year-old has been targeted 15 times in the first two games of the season, catching seven against Cincinnati and Baltimore, respectively. With Cleveland likely to be down more times than not this season, there will be plenty of chances for Flacco to throw, as he did 45 times in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.

That means targets for Tillman. Managers in PPR leagues with uncertainties at the wide receiver position, due to injury or lackluster production early on, should hit the waivers now and put in a claim. In a few weeks, when it becomes apparent that he is just one pass behind Jeudy and a favorite target of his veteran quarterback, it will be too late.

He is currently available in more than half of Yahoo and ESPN leagues.
