Eagles Reportedly 'Hope' to Get A.J. Brown 'More Involved' but Won't 'Force Feed' WR

Timothy RappSep 13, 2025

A.J. Brown had a rough start to the 2025 season, only registering one catch for eight yards on a single target in a 24-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, but the Philadelphia Eagles are obviously planning to ensure he sees more touches going forward.

"Watch for A.J. Brown. Only one target last week. They are hoping to get him more involved, but it's got to be organic," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said on Saturday's SportsCenter. "They're not going to force feed him but those easy slant routes that he can get 8-10 yards, they're going to try to get him involved."

Brown told reporter Jordan Schultz earlier in the week that the Cowboys were rolling their coverages toward him.

"I know I'm in the game because the coverage is being rotated to me every single play," he said. "Even if it's underneath catches to Dallas Goedert or Jahan Dotson getting his one-on-one opportunity, making the big grab in the post, that's how I know I'm still in this game and I'm still affecting this game regardless if I'm touching the ball or not."

"I'm still making the impact on the game," he continued. "As a receiver it is tough because you want to touch the ball, wanna feel like you're contributing. So that was tough, but I tried to do a really good job of staying locked in and staying ready. I've seen a lot of stuff on the Internet, zero separation, heard I'm a decoy... all that. Which is crazy because none of those things are true. I got zoned the entire game, I didn't get one single man [coverage] rep. So there won't be any separation, obviously. I'm not hurt and I'm not a decoy. Just kinda how the game went. Just know I'm excited for Week 2."

Brown, 28, had 67 catches for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games last season. The Eagles relied more heavily on the run game after acquiring Saquon Barkley last season—and also asked quarterback Jalen Hurts to limit turnovers at the expense of some downfield shots—so the passing numbers were down across the board.

He more than made his presence felt in the postseason, however, with 12 catches for 163 yards and two scores. He regularly feasted on single coverage on the outside when teams loaded the box to stop the run, and it's hard to imagine every team will so aggressively roll coverages his way this season. More targets should be coming, in other words.
