Vikings' J.J. McCarthy, Fiancee Katya Kuropas Announce Birth of Son Rome in IG Photo

Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy will head into Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season as a new father.

McCarthy and his fiancée, Katya Kuropas, welcomed their first son Rome Micah McCarthy on Friday.

Kuropas shared the news Friday in an Instagram post captioned, "The sweetest, most perfect gift from God!! We are so unbelievably blessed to be your parents."

Kuropas and McCarthy announced their engagement in January 2024, shortly after the quarterback capped off his college career by leading Michigan to a national championship.

The couple shared the news of Kuropas' pregnancy in May.

McCarthy, who missed the 2024 NFL season with a knee injury, led the Vikings to a 27-24 comeback victory over the Chicago Bears in his Monday night NFL debut.

The quarterback participated in Tuesday game planning and Wednesday practice with the Vikings before leaving to join Kuropas on Thursday morning, coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters (h/t ESPN's Kevin Seifert).

He is expected to be back with the team to make his second NFL start when Sunday's Week 2 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons kicks off in Minneapolis at 8:20 p.m. ET, per Seifert.
