Dallas Goedert Out with Knee Injury for Eagles' Super Bowl Rematch vs. Chiefs

Scott PolacekSep 12, 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles will be shorthanded on offense for their Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Friday that tight end Dallas Goedert was ruled out for the highly anticipated contest because of a knee injury he suffered.

Goedert played in Philadelphia's season-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys and finished with seven catches for 44 yards. He led the team in both catches and targets (seven) and took advantage of openings across the middle when Dallas focused on A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley.

At his best, the veteran tight end is someone who can consistently do just that in this Eagles offense.

He has five seasons with more than 500 receiving yards on his resume and finished the 2024 campaign with 42 catches for 496 yards and two touchdowns.

However, he missed the entire week of practice and will not be available against Kansas City.

Goedert isn't the only notable offensive weapon who likely will not play in Sunday's game, as Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters wide receiver Xavier Worthy only had a "slim" chance of taking the field after he suffered a shoulder injury during a collision with Travis Kelce in the season opener.

Kansas City is already playing without the suspended Rashee Rice at wide receiver and may need to rely more on the rushing attack against the Eagles.

As for the Philadelphia offense, it will likely rely more on Grant Calcaterra at tight end with Goedert sidelined.

Calcaterra appeared in all 17 games for the Eagles last season and finished with 24 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown.
