Xavier Worthy out for Chiefs' Super Bowl Rematch vs. Eagles amid Shoulder Injury

Scott PolacekSep 13, 2025

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy will not take the field for Sunday's Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Worthy was ruled out on Saturday despite Chiefs head coach Andy Reid telling reporters Friday that Worthy had a "slim" chance of playing after he did a "little bit" of work during the team's latest practice.

Worthy suffered the injury early during Kansas City's Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Worthy and Travis Kelce collided with each other when they were each running routes, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the injury was a dislocated shoulder. Reid told reporters Monday the wide receiver was "rehabbing and working his shoulder. We'll just see where it goes, day-by-day here."

Kelce took responsibility for the play that caused the injury.

"I'm supposed to be running my route at depth for Worthy," Kelce said on his New Heights podcast. "So, it's frustrating for me. I was trying to kind of set up my guy to be able to get into position, and it all just happened pretty quick. I just gotta be better, man. I'm 13 years in the league. There is no excuse for me running into my own guys like that."

Kansas City is already shorthanded at wide receiver with Rashee Rice serving a six-game suspension, so not having Worthy will be a significant concern in what figures to be a daunting game against the reigning-champion Eagles.

The Chiefs will need to rely more on the combination of Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster, with Kelce remaining a key target at tight end. It could also look to control the clock more with a rushing attack spearheaded by Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt.

Still, the offense will not be as effective with Worthy sidelined.

That there was still a "slim" chance he could've taken the field in Week 2 suggests he likely won't miss much time as the season progresses, which is a silver lining for Kansas City.
