Jets' Garrett Wilson Hypes Justin Fields After Week 1 Performance, 'We're All Excited'
New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson says it's been "like a dream" to play with his former Ohio State teammate Justin Fields despite his team's 0-1 start to the 2025 season.
Fields recorded 218 passing yards and three total touchdowns while making his Jets debut in last Sunday's season-opening loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"Just how fast he was getting through everything," Wilson said Thursday about what surprised him about Fields' debut (h/t SNY). "It's a lot that we're asked of... It's because it can be really effective, once we get it. And with that, there's going to be a learning curve, and just how fast he's picking it up, and then creating the plays after, off-script, and staying alive, stuff like that.

"For receivers, it's like a dream. All of a sudden, you're just running routes, and you get to break off, and play street ball a little bit, and it's open. So, yeah, man. We're all excited."
Wilson also praised Fields for his impact on the mentality of his teammates (h/t SNY).
"This game, it rewards people that love it, is the way I see it. And he loves the game, plays it the right way, has the right mindset every time he takes that field," Wilson said Thursday. "And all the teammates, that stuff's contagious, right? So when your quarterback's doing that, it's like you've got no choice. I'm gonna pop up after taking that hit... 'cause you're seeing him do it."
Wilson recorded seven catches for 95 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown pass, in his first NFL game with Fields as his quarterback.
Wilson also had the chance to extend the Jets' final drive into game-winning field goal territory late in the fourth quarter, but was unable to hold onto Fields' pass when tackled by Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
Despite frequent turnover in New York that saw him catch touchdown passes from six different starting quarterbacks, Wilson has topped 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three NFL seasons.
Wilson will hope to see his production climb if Fields is able to provide more stability while settling into his role as the Jets' offensive leader this season, starting Sunday with a Week 2 matchup against the visiting Buffalo Bills.
