"Part of me is like, 'I'm just a country boy, rub some dirt on it, it's fine,'" he told Complex Sports. "I don't think it's astronomical, what I spend to keep me right. If I had to guess, maybe $60k-75k a year. Is that high?"
Well, it's certainly more than the average gym membership, that's for sure.
But for a professional athletes, it's the cost of doing business. It has been rumored, for instance, that LeBron James spends over a million dollars per year maintaining his physique. James has refuted that figure, though he takes his body maintenance regiment very seriously.
"I don't know where the hell that s--t came from," a laughing James told Pat McAfee in March regarding the rumor. "Listen, I do take care of my body. But I have no idea where the amount of money came from. But I do invest in my body for sure. Trying to do a little bit of this, little bit of that. Obviously, a lot of soft tissue work, a lot of massages, a lot of hyperbaric chambers, ice tubs, ice baths. Whatever I can do to continue playing at this level, man, I'm gonna continue to do while I'm playing."
Allen doesn't think he's anywhere close to the $1 million figure, but he's hardly pinching pennies when it comes to keeping himself in top shape.
