49ers' Kyle Shanahan Says Jake Moody 'Looked Like He Lost His Confidence' amid Release
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan explained that kicker Jake Moody appeared to lose his confidence to start the 2025 season before he was waived by the team on Wednesday.
"He'd have to say why, but it looked like he lost his confidence and he wasn't kicking the ball well enough and was way too inconsistent," Shanahan told reporters (h/t Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk).

"It wasn't anything I had to beat around the bush on," he added. "He knew that."
The 49ers signed former Carolina Panthers kicker Eddy Piñeiro to replace Moody.
San Francisco decided to part ways with the former third-round pick following a tumultuous performance in the team's 17-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.
Moody connected on one of his three field goals, missing a 27-yard attempt in the second quarter before a 36-yard try was blocked in the third quarter.
Moody put together an encouraging rookie season in 2023, hitting 84 percent of his field goals and connecting on two of his three attempts from at least 50 yards.
He took a step back in 2024, though. Moody made a mere 70.6 percent of his field goals last season, the lowest percentage among the 20 kickers to attempt at least 30 field goals.
The 25-year-old also converted just four of his nine attempts from at least 50 yards.
After a slow start on Sunday combined with a perceived lack of confidence, the 49ers decided to move on from Moody.
