Marlon Humphrey Calls out Ravens Defense After Bills Loss, Must 'Work on Our Maturity'

Timothy RappSep 10, 2025

Baltimore Ravens defensive back Marlon Humphrey had some strong words for the team's defense after giving up a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter on Sunday night and losing to the Buffalo Bills, 41-40.

"It's very clear we got great players on both sides of the ball, but defensively we have to work on our maturity," he told reporters Wednesday. "It doesn't matter what our offense is doing, we have to go out there and win the game. Our maturity level right now, sadly we get in those situations, it's just not good enough."

Humphrey said there were a number of moments where the Ravens were in "perfect calls" for what the Bills ran, but "did not execute the calls properly."

"That's why the loss hurts so bad. It was because we knew exactly what they were going to do in a couple of situations, and all 11 guys couldn't get together," he added. "And so that maturity, we're still working on it, and we're looking to build on that maturity Sunday."

He also suggested that too many guys may have tried to make plays instead of handling their individual jobs:

Finally, Humphrey said that defensive coordinator Zach Orr relayed to the team that "repeat offenders" wouldn't be tolerated, aka players who continue to make the same mistakes.

Baltimore's defense allowed the Bills to score two touchdowns and kick a field goal on their final three drives. Those three drives took a total of five minutes and 53 seconds in game time.

Granted, the Ravens' offense also sputtered massively down the stretch, only running eight plays on its final three drives while turning the ball over once on a Derrick Henry fumble. It's tough to put too much blame on a unit that scored 40 points in the contest, however.

Humphrey, for one, would prefer to hold the defense accountable for the loss.
