Bucs' Emeka Egbuka Explains Calling for GW TD Route vs. Falcons in NFL Debut on Video
Two touchdown catches, including the one that proved to be the game-winner, would be an unbelievable rookie debut on its own, but Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka also called his final score in advance.
"Two-minute drive, gotta have it," he said when talking about his second touchdown catch in the 23-20 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. "We ran this play a couple times earlier on in the game, and I was open. So I told Bake, 'we've got to go back to it.' And we did. Gave me a perfect ball."

Biggest Questions Surrounding 2026 NFL Season After the Draft 🤔
The score came in the final minute of the game, and fellow wide receiver Mike Evans revealed Egbuka envisioned it happening before he ran the touchdown route.
"Right before he caught that last touchdown, he like called it," Evans said of Egbuka, per Joe Bucs Fan. "He wanted a post route. He said, 'I'm about to game one.'
"We were in the huddle and [Egbuka] said we need to run this certain play and I'm going to game [the cornerback]. And I was just like, 'Maybe we do need to run it.' And then literally he runs the post and touchdown, next play."
The Ohio State product confirmed in Wednesday's video that he told Evans he wanted to run that route.
This is not the first time Egbuka has done something similar.
A video released after the Buckeyes defeated Notre Dame in the national championship game last season revealed that Egbuka said at some point during the contest, "We need to run a go-ball on 29. Look at the inside leverage he has when [Carnell Tate's] attacking him."
Well, Ohio State ended up running that go-ball on a key 3rd-and-11 in the final three minutes, and Will Howard found Jeremiah Smith for the completion that essentially clinched the championship.
It seems like Egbuka's ability to recognize opportunities in advance didn't go anywhere as he moved to the NFL level, and he is surely already a fan favorite among Buccaneers fans after his incredible debut.
He will look to keep that momentum rolling in Week 2 against the Houston Texans.
