Steelers' DK Metcalf Not Making 'Big Deal' out of 1st Game vs. Seahawks Since Trade

Doric SamSep 10, 2025

After being traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Pittsburgh Steelers this past offseason, star receiver DK Metcalf will be facing his former franchise for the first time on Sunday, but he's not overhyping the situation.

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Metcalf downplayed Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks as just another game.

"Y'all gonna make it a big deal, but I'm not," Metcalf said.

Metcalf entered the league as a second-round pick for the Seahawks in the 2019 NFL draft. He recorded at least 900 receiving yards in all six years in Seattle, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark three times and earning two Pro Bowl selections in 2020 and 2023. His career-high 1,303 yards in the 2020 campaign still stands as a Seahawks franchise record for receiving yards in a single season.

Following the conclusion of the 2024 season, Metcalf requested to be traded from Seattle and landed in Pittsburgh. Upon his acquisition, the Steelers signed him to a five-year, $150 million contract extension.

In his debut in Black & Gold this past Sunday, Metcalf finished with four catches for a team-high 83 yards as the Steelers opened the 2025 season with a 34-32 win over the New York Jets. His 11-yard reception off multiple deflections late in the fourth quarter helped set up a 60-yard go-ahead field goal by veteran kicker Chris Boswell.

The Seahawks weren't as successful in their first game without Metcalf, losing 17-13 to the San Francisco 49ers. Seattle receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba dominated with nine catches for 124 yards, but the team's lack of depth at the position was on full display as no other Seahawks player recorded more than three catches or 15 receiving yards.

Metcalf sounds confident that he will be able to put his emotions aside while facing his former team as he tries to help the Steelers earn a second straight win.
