Micah Parsons Advocated for More Snaps in Packers Debut vs. Lions After Cowboys Trade
Micah Parsons only played 29 snaps on Sunday in his debut performance with the Green Bay Packers, though the team planned to give him even less than that before the superstar edge-rusher convinced his coaches otherwise.
"I told [the defensive coaches] the other day when they were talking to me about the snap counts, it's like, 'Man, we could run gassers, we could be in practice and you give me these plays, we can run to the ball, but at the end of the day, you've got to let me push through some things,'" he told reporters Tuesday. "'You've got to let me get tired and get worn-out out there so that way I can become better and get better.' That's when it was like, 'OK, your reps can go up.' Sometimes you've got to fight for your own right to play."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Parsons was only a member of the Packers for 10 days when he made his first appearance for the team against the Detroit Lions—and spent much of the summer as a hold-in with the Dallas Cowboys amidst a contract dispute (and minor facet joint sprain in his back)—so he was always expected to be on a pitch count.
But his debut went about as well as possible. He recorded a few pressures, sacked Jared Goff in the fourth quarter and contributed to a dominant defensive effort in a 27-13 win.
Of course, the Packers will be expecting plenty more after trading defensive tackle Kenny Clark and a pair of first-round picks to the Cowboys for Parsons before signing him to a four-year, $188 million extension.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley said he was already brimming with ideas after Parsons was acquired.
"I've studied probably years of his tape in the last week, so I have a pretty good idea of what he can do," he told reporters last week, "and I have a lot of drawings packed away for when he is ramped up and ready to go."
The star edge-rusher believes some of those schemes could be incorporated as soon as Thursday night against the Washington Commanders.
"[Hafley] threw some in last week, threw some in this week," he told reporters. "Obviously we don't get to get into everything because situational football, just where we're at on the field, things like that, but I think this might be a game where something might come out and things like that."
