Commanders' Jayden Daniels Reportedly Has Sprained Knee Injury, Uncertain vs. Raiders

Paul KasabianSep 15, 2025

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is dealing with a sprained knee, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

Rapoport reported that this is "not a long-term injury," but Daniels' status for a Week 3 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders is in doubt.

The Commanders listed the young passer on the team's Week 2 injury report with a right wrist injury in advance of their Thursday Night Football game at the Green Bay Packers.

However, Daniels was also a full participant in the team's Monday practice, and head coach Dan Quinn told reporters the following day that he had "zero concerns," per Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.

He wound up playing against the Packers, finishing 24-of-42 for 200 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-18 loss.

Daniels has been a transformative force on the Commanders franchise since being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. In the year before he arrived, the Commanders went 4-13.

Then the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner led Washington to a 12-5 record, a pair of playoff wins and the team's first NFC Championship Game appearance since 1991.

Along the way, Daniels completed 69.0 percent of his passes for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns (nine interceptions). He also rushed for 891 yards and six scores.

This season, Daniels has 433 yards and two touchdowns through the air.

Ultimately, the dynamic signal-caller is the face of a franchise that has undergone a tremendous overhaul under Commanders managing partner Josh Harris via a new general manager (Adam Peters), head coach (Dan Quinn) and quarterback in Daniels, whose explosive talent has guided the Commanders to great heights.

The hope, certainly, is that he stays healthy and meets his great potential. If ever forced to miss time, the Commanders' current QB room also consists of Marcus Mariota at backup and Josh Johnson at third-string.
