Tom Brady Says Modern QBs Are 'Coddled a Little Bit More,' Praises Patrick Mahomes

New England Patriots icon Tom Brady feels Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' work ethic will help him succeed in an era of what Brady described as relatively "coddled" young quarterbacks.

"I think there's a lot of opportunities for them to succeed, and at the same time there's challenges, because there's a lot more distractions," Brady told comedian Kevin Hart about the new generation of quarterbacks in Tuesday's season premiere of Cold as Balls from the LOL Network.

Brady continued: "Everyone is coddled, a little bit more, where as opposed to say, 'Hey, you better come in and get the work done,' it's kind of like, 'Hey, you probably should do this.'

"The guys that are really gonna have the great work ethic, they're gonna really be able to succeed."

Hart then asked Brady which signal-caller he believed was most likely to "duplicate a version of history" in today's generation.

"Patrick," Brady answered without hesitating. "He has a will to win, he's got a desire, every time he takes the field, to be a great leader. Everything he says is the right thing."

Brady also recently compared Mahomes to himself during an August appearance on the Joel Klatt Show.

"Everyone wants to win, but what are the habits and the daily habits and the actionable things you need to do every day to put your team in a position to win?" Brady asked in August.

"So Patrick Mahomes, to me, is the one that does that the most often. Because who he is, obviously his physical talent, how he understands what he needs to do offensively, and he brings a consistent winning attitude to work every single day. In the biggest moments, you can depend on him the most."

Brady's latest praise of Mahomes comes after the Chiefs suffered a 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers during last Friday's season opener in São Paulo, Brazil.

Mahomes said after the game that the Chiefs' leadership would be in charge of helping their teammates recover from the loss, which marked just the second season-opening defeat of Mahomes' career.

"It's not going to be any easier... we just need to have a great week of practice, come in with a great mindset and the leaders on this team have got to step up," Mahomes said after the loss to the Chargers (h/t KSHB's Tod Palmer).

The Chiefs will lean on Mahomes to drive a bounce-back performance when the 2025 season continues with a Super Bowl LIX rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
