Falcons to Work out Kickers After Younghoe Koo Misses Game-Tying FG in Loss to Bucs
The Atlanta Falcons are putting some pressure on Younghoe Koo after the kicker missed a game-tying field goal against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
Per ESPN's March Raimondi, head coach Raheem Morris said the team plans to work out a handful of kickers this week.
"We'll work out some veteran kickers tomorrow, some youngsters," Morris said.
The Buccaneers took a late lead over the Falcons on Sunday but missed the extra point, giving Atlanta the chance to force overtime without reaching the endzone. The Falcons managed to get the ball down to Tampa Bay's 28-yard line, but Koo missed the 44-yard field goal wide right in the final seconds.
"Yeah, he missed it," Morris told reporters after the game. "I'm not going to sit here and pretend like I can tell you about the technique and what happened on that miss. But we've got to make those kicks. Those are great, makeable kicks and we have to lock in and make those kicks and get it done."
Koo had been perfect up to that point, hitting a pair of field goals and two extra points, but he missed the one that counted the most.
Koo, who is in his eighth season in the NFL and seventh season with the Falcons, has struggled in recent years. Last season, he made just 73.5 percent of his field goals, going 5-of-7 from 30-39 yards, 7-of-11 from 40-49 yards and 6-of-9 from 50-plus. He finished 19th in the NFL with 25 field goals made.
He was, however, perfect on extra points, making all 26 of his attempts.
Morris said the Falcons wouldn't make any "whiplash-type decisions" about Koo, but he made it clear that he'll make whatever change he feels is necessary.
"We've got a lot of confidence for what he's done for us in the past," Morris told reporters. "If that stuff doesn't happen, we've got to make those changes and those corrections. But you've got to have confidence in your guys, and we always will."
