Russell Wilson to Be Giants QB1 over Jaxson Dart vs. Cowboys After Loss to Commanders
New York Giants fans hoping to see rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart take over the offense following Sunday's 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders will have to wait longer.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll told reporters Monday the plan is to keep veteran Russell Wilson as the team's starter for the Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys.
There was a time earlier in his career that Wilson was one of the best quarterbacks in the league during his peak on the Seattle Seahawks. However, the 36-year-old version who was under center against the Commanders was anything but that.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value ๐
Wilson went 17-of-37 for 168 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions as the offense failed to get into the end zone. The defense giving up just 21 points against a strong Washington offense that was coming off an NFC Championship Game appearance with Jayden Daniels under center was solid, but New York's offense was unable to keep pace.
It was more of the same for Wilson after he finished 24th in the league in QBR last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, per Pro Football Reference.
The Wisconsin product is not the quarterback of the future in New York, but Dart may be after the NFC East team selected him with a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
And his time may be coming sooner rather than later given the latest reporting from ESPN's Adam Schefter during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show:
"The time to go to Jaxson Dart, the Giants' rookie first-round draft pick, is coming," Schefter said. "We don't know if it's going to be this week, next week, next month, but make no mistake about it. Jaxson Dart's time as the starting quarterback for the Giants is coming."
Realistically, the Giants are still in rebuilding mode after going 3-14 last season. Nothing from Sunday's loss to the Commanders suggests they are close to turning things around and being a playoff team, even with a notable name like Wilson at quarterback.
Given that reality, there will likely be a time this season when they start to focus on the future and give some of their younger players more playing time.
Dart is sure to see plenty of action with that situation looming, even if that action doesn't yet arrive against the Cowboys.
