Hafthor 'The Mountain' Bjornsson Sets World Record with 1,124-Pound Deadlift on Video

Andrew PetersSep 7, 2025

Some weightlifters hope to someday join the 1,000-pound club with their combined bench press, squat and deadlift maxes.

Hafthor 'The Mountain' Bjornsson is in the 1,000-pound club solely from his deadlift, and he's only adding on at this point.

At the World Deadlift Competition, Bjornsson broke his own deadlift world record, with a 1,124.4-pound max deadlift.

"I'll say this guys, I'm the strongest I've ever been," he said. "I'm the strongest, I'm the greatest and thanks to you guys, I was able to be successful today. I'm so happy I was able to come here and prove so many people wrong."

Bjornsson has long been the king of the deadlift. The Icelandic strongman first claimed the world record in 2020 with a 1,104.5-pound deadlift at the World's Ultimate Strongman. He then broke his own record at the Eisenhart Black Deadlift Competition earlier this year with a 1,113.3-pound deadlift.

Now he's bested himself once again, and it's hard to imagine anyone will be coming for his record any time soon.
