Cam Ward Disappoints Titans Fans in Historic NFL Debut vs. Nix, Sean Payton, Broncos

Taylyn Hadley Sep 7, 2025

No. 1 pick Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans dropped their season opener on the road Sunday, falling to the Denver Broncos 12-20 in a disappointing debut for the rookie quarterback.

In his historic debut, Ward completed 12-of-28 passes for 112 yards with no touchdowns while taking six sacks, as all 12 of Tennessee's points came from kicker Joey Slye.

Tony Pollard rushed for 60 yards on 18 carries and added one catch for 29 yards. Calvin Ridley finished with four receptions for 27 yards.

On the other side, Broncos quarterback Bo Nix also struggled, throwing two interceptions while completing 25-of-40 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown. J.K. Dobbins ran for 63 yards and a touchdown, and Courtland Sutton added a receiving score.

Fans expressed frustration with the Titans' sluggish offensive performance in Ward's highly anticipated debut.

The Titans started strong, getting into field-goal range on their opening drive and putting up the first points of the game. With the score tied 3-3 entering the second quarter, Tennessee fumbled on its first possession, stalling early momentum. They added two more field goals before halftime but trailed 10-9 at the break.

Tennessee's final points came late in the third quarter, but the fourth was all Denver. The Titans' offense sputtered with a series of three-and-outs, punts and a costly fumble, as the Broncos pulled away for a 20-12 win — holding Tennessee out of the end zone all game.

Ward will look to secure his first NFL win when the Titans host the Los Angeles Rams next Sunday.
