Micah Parsons Gets Sack as Packers Beat Lions in Star's Debut After Cowboys Trade

Timothy RappSep 7, 2025

The Micah Parsons era in Green Bay is off to a 1-0 start.

The Packers were dominant in their opening game of the season on Sunday, beating the Detroit Lions 27-13 behind Jordan Love's 188 passing yards and two touchdowns. Parsons added a sack in his debut.

Love completed passes to 10 different Packers on the evening, torching a Lions' team that is adjusting to life with new coordinators on both sides of the ball.

Josh Jacobs extended his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown to nine, meanwhile, sealing the game in the fourth quarter with a three-yard plunge.

Normally, either of those offensive performances might have been the main story. But this was Parsons' first appearance with the Packers since his shocking trade from the Dallas Cowboys, and everybody was curious how big of an impact he would have out of the gate.

He didn't disappoint (unless you are a Cowboys fan or player, in which case Sunday was probably very painful).

As expected, the Packers played him situationally, largely utilizing him on third downs and obvious passing situations. But his impact on those snaps was palpable, and his pressure was almost directly responsible for a Jared Goff interception.

It wasn't his only impressive moment, of course, as Parsons finished the game with a sack and had several other pressures.

All in all, it was a dominant performance from Green Bay's front seven, locking down an explosive Detroit offense that looked pretty lost without former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, now the head coach in Chicago. The Packers finished with four sacks.

The Packers defense certainly looks as though it has the chance to be special, and Sunday's performance came despite Parsons playing a limited role. When he's fully unleashed, it could be scary hours for opposing offenses. You can bet the rest of the NFC North isn't thrilled with Jerry Jones at the moment.
