Baker Mayfield Hypes Michael Penix Jr., Says Falcons QB Will Be 'Problem' in NFL

Baker Mayfield predicts greatness out of the Atlanta Falcons' young quarterback.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback revealed his message to Michael Penix Jr. and praised his play after the Bucs' 23-20 win over the Falcons on Sunday

"I told him after the game, he's going to be a problem in this league for a long time," Mayfield told reporters. "I think he's a great player. He's decisive, goes through his reads, trusts his guys. He's young but he's got it."

Penix started his season well despite the loss, throwing for 298 yards and a touchdown while adding 21 yards and a score on the ground. It was arguably his best performance so far in a Falcons uniform, though he hasn't had too many opportunities just yet.

Penix, the No. 8 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, started last season as Kirk Cousins' backup, seeing very little action through the first part of the year. He took over under center in December after Cousins' struggles.

Penix finished his rookie year with 775 passing yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in five games. This year, he'll look to prove Mayfield right and become a "problem" in the NFL.
