Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Says He Was 'Happy to Beat Everyone Associated with the Jets'

Timothy RappSep 7, 2025

Aaron Rodgers started his Pittsburgh Steelers tenure with a bang, not only throwing for four touchdowns in a 34-32 win over the New York Jets, but doing so over his former team.

"I was happy to beat everyone associated with the Jets," he told reporters after asked about his exit interview with Aaron Glenn, which Rodgers previously said made him feel disrespected.

Rodgers also had fun at the expense of New York fans while leaving the field:

Rodgers recounted his exit interview with Glenn during an April appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

"I figured that when I flew across country on my own dime that there was going to be a conversation," he said at the time. "And the confusing thing to me—and the strange thing—was when I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking, he runs out of the room. I'm like, 'That's kind of strange.' Then he comes back with the GM and I'm like, 'Alright.' So, we sit down in the office, and I think we're going to have this long conversation. I've flown across the country and, 20 seconds in, he goes, 'So, do you want to play football?' And I was like, 'Yeah, I'm interested.' And he said, 'We're going in a different direction at quarterback.' I was kind of shocked. Now I'm not shocked because I didn't think that was a possibility. Listen, of course, if they want to move on, that's totally fine, but shocked because I just flew across country. You could have told me this on the phone if we weren't even going to have a conversation."

He also said that Glenn implied during the exit interview that Rodgers might undermine the head coach's messaging, and denied that he pleaded to keep his job in New York, as some reports at the time suggested.

"No, hell no. I don't want any part of that," he told McAfee. "It was already a debacle in some cases. Listen, that whole situation was crazy."

Glenn humorously declined to offer his side of the story when asked by reporters following Rodgers' comments:

General manager Darren Mougey also declined comment after Rodgers' interview with McAfee, though he did briefly discuss the split during the NFL Scouting Combine.

In the end, Rodgers (eventually) ended up in Pittsburgh after two ill-fated seasons with the Jets, and on Sunday, he got the best of his old team. He clearly enjoyed doing so.
