Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value ๐
The No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, Hunter is hoping to become the first player in NFL history to play on both offense and defense for a full season. He won the 2024 Heisman Trophy while starring as a full-time wide receiver and cornerback for Colorado. Only three players have played both positions in the same game in the NFL since 1980: Deion Sanders in 1996, Champ Bailey in 2000 and Antonio Cromartie in 2012.
ESPN'sย Adam Schefterย reported that the Jaguars are planning for Hunter to be an "every-down wide receiver and situational corner" in Week 1 against the Panthers. Sources told Schefter that the plan for the season opener "doesn't mean that arrangement will hold in Week 2 or further into the season," and "they believe there will be some weeks when the rookie can and will be deployed as a full-time wide receiver and cornerback."
Jags first-year head coach Liam Coen didn't reveal too much about Hunter's usage whileย speaking to reportersย on Friday, but he indicated that the plan is fluid.
"We're going to have to figure it out," Coen said. "We're going to have to all be flexible. We'll come up with that plan over the next 24 hours in terms like, alright, what are the exact maybe numbers we want to hit on both sides or usage?"
Hunter is about to embark on one of the most unique rookie seasons the NFL has ever seen, and he will look good throughout the year following his new haircut.
